expanding your horizons conference
Expanding Your Horizons is a conference for girls, encouraging them to take classes and pursue careers in non-traditional fields for women. The conference is put on through the Expanding Your Horizons Network, formerly the Math/Science Network (www.expandingyourhorizons.org).
Our conference at Swarthmore focuses on middle school girls (grades 7 and 8) in the fields of math, science, engineering, and economics. This year, during the computer science workshop, Tia Newhall, Betsy Horner, and Swarthmore computer science students Meggie Ladlow, Megan Schuster, and Simone Fried taught the middle school students some programming using the Alice programming environment.
