Flight Simulation of Flocking Geese Using Particle Set Animation

Introduction
Flocks,
Herd, and Schools: A Distributed Behavioral Model
In 1987, Craig Reynold of
Symbolics Graphics Division presented a paper at the annual ACM SIGGRAPH conference that
revolutionized the simulation techniques for aggregations of animals.
His paper describes a behavioral animation process that uses a
modified particle systems technique to
model the aggregate motion of animals. Instead of defining group
attrubutes and drawing paths for each animal individually, Reynolds' process assumes that herding,
flocking, and schooling is a result of of individual animals
interacting with each other. He calls the simulationated
representation of these individuals boids.
