Subject: Japan-America Student Conference
To:

Dear Professor/University Staff,

My name is Jason Yang, and I am a senior at UC Berkeley. I am a member of a
committee eight American university students planning and executing next
year’s 68th Japan America Student Conference. As you know, JASC has an
application deadline on a *rolling admissions basis until March 1, 2016 *in
order to assemble a more diverse delegation. There is only *two weeks left*
to apply!

With 81-years of history, Japan-America Student Conference (JASC) brings
together 72 Japanese and U.S. students of diverse backgrounds and
perspectives. The two delegations will study, work, live, and travel
together as a group while visiting four regions in United States from* August
1st to August 24th, 2016.*

We would like to ask for your assistance in reaching out to students about
this summer opportunity. We are working diligently to create a conference
that facilitates enriching dialogue between Japanese and American students.
As a delegate from the 67th conference, the experience taught me much about
the issues surrounding US-Japan relations, as well as the importance of
taking initiative and working together in a group in order to create mutual
understanding. I would like for more American college students that are
interested in Japan to have the same opportunity I did to grow in their
capacity to become future world leaders.

We are reaching out to you and your department because Japan-America
Student Conference (JASC) is not only interested in recruiting
political-science and international studies majors, but also individuals
who are engineers and STEM-focused. Student delegates will join roundtables
to discuss related topics, supported by student coordinators of the JASC,
the 68th JASC Executive Committee. In this year’s JASC, we have a science
and technology oriented roundtable (Developing the Future through Science),
which emphasizes cooperation between the two countries in this field and
future developments.

We would greatly appreciate it if you could inform your students about this
conference, either in person or by forwarding the following letter for
students and the attached brochure and pamphlet. There are no requirements
with regard to nationality, Japanese language ability, year or major. Please
feel free to respond to this email with comments or questions.

Best Regards,

68th JASC American Executive Committee

Dear Student,

Initiated in 1934, the Japan-America Student Conference (JASC
<http://iscdc.org/jasc/2016/>) has an 81-year history that includes a host
of distinguished delegates <http://iscdc.org/jasc/2014/voices/>, from
former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, former Japanese Prime
Minister Kiichi Miyazawa, and president of Nissan Corporation Yutaka
Katayama. As a delegate, along with 71 other student leaders from Japan and
the U.S., you will be able to:

   - *delve into critical topics* ranging from ethics in science to the
   efficacy of democracy,
   - *learn firsthand* from established leaders and educational field trips
as we travel to Boston, Washington D.C., Missoula, and San Francisco,
   - *build your professional network* through networking receptions, and
   - *forge lifelong friendships across the Pacific*.

The conference will be held from August 1 to August 24, 2016 and conducted
entirely in English. No Japanese language or studies background is required.

As Japan-America Student conference seeks a diverse full delegation, we are
actively encouraging students who are engineers and STEM-focused to apply
for the 68th JASC. In this year’s JASC, we have a science and technology
oriented roundtable (titled: Developing the Future through Science
<http://iscdc.org/jasc/2016/roundtables/#stem>), which emphasizes
cooperation between the two countries in this field and future developments.

The 68th Japan-America Student Conference deadline operates on a *rolling
admissions basis until March 1, 2016*. There is only *two weeks left* to
apply! We strongly encourage you to complete your application as soon as
possible since we will accept qualified candidates on a rolling basis.

*Apply now* <http://iscdc.org/jasc/info/> for a chance to join us this
summer to learn beyond the classroom, be challenged in your opinions, and
grow as a leader! If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us
at jasc at iscdc.org.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

68th JASC American Executive Committee
