Laboratory Coordinator/Systems Administrator

The Department of Computer Science at Bryn Mawr College expects to hire a
departmental Laboratory Coordinator/Systems Administrator. The Laboratory
Coordinator's responsibilities include hardware and software support for
teaching and research, faculty desktop support, and administration of
curriculum resources.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to assist in supporting the
departmental computational infrastructure of nearly 50 workstations, associated
servers, a number of robots, and electronic services (printing, web, e-mail,
wiki, etc). The department's computing infrastructure comprises of a 25
workstation teaching and general use laboratory with dual-boot (Windows and
Linux) computers. Additionally, there are two research laboratories with
dual-boot workstations, robots, and ancillary equipment. The Laboratory
Coordinator is responsible for the installation, integration, maintenance, and
integrity of all hardware and software running on all computing systems in the
department. This person will participate in the day-to-day management of the
systems, support of the user community and provide software support for
research and teaching. When necessary, this person will coordinate and
collaborate with the college's IS operations which provides information
services to the larger college community.

The department is involved in a number of initiatives, include developing
software, courses materials, and exploring new and innovative uses of research
in the classroom. The Systems Administrator will work closely with the
department faculty and staff toward these goals.

The applicant must have at least a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and
experience with Linux and Windows administration, ideally in an
enterprise-level mixed Linux/Unix and Windows environment. They must have a
working knowledge of common Windows applications and services, Linux/Unix
experience, multiple scripting languages, one or more high level programming
languages and the ability to successfully troubleshoot applications and system
level problems. Additionally excellent interpersonal skills are necessary to
interact effectively with a diverse and demanding user community.
