Subject: [Tapia_announcements-l] NCAR's Summer Internships in Parallel
	Computational Science
X-Mailer: Microsoft Office Outlook 12.0

Please post this announcement of the 2011 summer internship opportunities
sponsored by the Computational and Information Systems Laboratory (CISL)
at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). NCAR is a
federally funded research and development center, established in 1960,
that seeks to better understand our atmosphere and how weather and climate
affect the Earth. NCAR is located in Boulder, Colorado and is operated by
The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) under a
cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation (NSF), our
primary sponsor. Over 120 Ph.D. researchers and hundreds of visiting
scientists conduct interdisciplinary research at NCAR with state of the
art research tools - including a variety of community climate and weather
   computer models.

As part of NCAR, CISL provides the high performance computing resources
and data storage infrastructure in support of the atmospheric and related
sciences and performs applied mathematics, statistics and computer science
research needed to advance NCAR's science mission. NCAR/CISL have been
partners of the NSF's TeraGrid since 2006 and has been a TeraGrid resource
   provider since 2007.

SIParCS - Summer Internships in Parallel Computational Science
(http://www.cisl.ucar.edu/siparcs) The SIParCS Program at the National
Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) offers graduate students and
undergraduate students, who have completed their sophomore year by the
summer 2011, significant hands-on R&D opportunities in high performance
computing (HPC) and related fields that use HPC for scientific discovery
and modeling. This 10-week internship program embeds students in mentored
research projects in computation science relevant to NCAR's mission.
SIParCS application window opens December 1, 2010 and closes February 4,
   2011.

UCAR values diversity and encourages those in underrepresented groups to
   apply. AA/EOE

   Thank you,

   Kristin Mooney

   SIParCS Program Coordinator
