Maurer and Newhall, I'm writing to mention a summer program of sorts that I would recommend to Swarthmore students. The Singularity Institute for Artificial Intelligence (http://singinst.org/) is interested in bright, well-rounded students with analytical skills to be Visiting Fellows, as is described in more detail on this post: http://lesswrong.com/lw/1hn/call_for_new_siai_visiting_fellows_on_a_rolling/ I haven't participated in the program directly, but I know many of the people who work with SIAI, so I can vouch for the program's excellence. My impression is that Swarthmore students especially would tend to fit in very well, because SIAI combines a passion for academics with concern for social causes. Feel free to pass along the link to students in your departments (or anyone else you think might be interested!). I've cc'ed the coordinator in case you have any questions. I hope things are going well back at Swat!
