Dan graduated last year and I think one of our seniors is

Subject: Software Engineer Position

Hello friends

My company, Wireless Generation, is hiring again, looking for people both
talented and interested in improving public education in America. It sounds
a little contrived, but I truly believe we are helping revolutionize public
education by putting scientifically-based assessment data, diagnostic tools,
instructional recommendations, communications tools, and more directly and
immediately into the hands of public school teachers and administrators
across the country.

If you're afraid the business world is soulless and money driven, fear not!
In addition to solving some challenging and serious social problems with our
software, we are also dedicated to advancing the state of the art in
enterprise software development and infrastructure. My co-worker just
published an article in Java World introducing a new enterprise data access
framework, and I'm currently beginning research into creating Web
2.0/AJAX-friendly server-side storage system.

Moreover, Wireless Generation is a really wonderful place to work, full of
smart and interesting people like you come to expect after a few years at
Swarthmore, and what could be better than going to work in the world's most
exciting city (hint: it ain't Philly).

If you're interested in applying or want to hear more, please feel free to
email me at . Job posting from HR follows.

Thanks,
Dan Crosta '06

Job Description:

Wireless Generation deals with the massive streams of information that guide
children's education. We launched just 6 years ago. Today we serve millions
of students -- more than 10% of all children in America in grades K-3. We
are booming because our vision for changing education is both compelling and
profoundly needed.

Wireless Generation was co-founded by Larry Berger and Greg Gunn -- both
Rhodes Scholars with years of experience in education and technology. They
created a company designed to give educators much-needed tools that would
make a significant difference in their teaching. They chose to use PDAs as
their first platform. Teachers, they reasoned, are highly mobile
professionals, and it made sense that teachers' tools should meet the
demands of their work environment.

We work with an interesting range of environments and technologies,
including rich-media handheld applications, AJAX and Web 2.0 tools,
automated testing frameworks, modern OO scripting languages like Python, and
enterprise-scale data systems. We have created a leading-edge PDA
abstraction layer in C++, allowing us to develop a single codebase that
compiles to divergent devices and operating systems.

Today, we employ 200 people, 40 of whom are developers. We are located in a
booming residential/commercial neighborhood on the waterfront in Brooklyn,
New York, 5 minutes by train from Manhattan.

We are looking for recent graduates with Bachelors and/or Masters in
Computer Science (or related) to help build out our product suite and
platform.

We work in small teams, and have lots of opportunity for talented developers
to move into leadership positions. Ours is a challenging arena, including
minimal fault tolerance and fixed release dates imposed by the school year.
We work hard, while seeking to maintain a healthy work/life balance, and
frequently find our work richly rewarding.
