 >> Subject: GET READY!! Pennsylvania/Microsoft Offsite Hiring Session - Oct 30th-Nov 1st !!!!
 >>
 >> Hello!!
 >>
 >> I have some exciting news regarding an event that I am planning for
 >> Pennsylvania schools only and would love to have your students
 >> participate.
 >>
 >> As you know I have been the Pennsylvania region recruiter for Microsoft
 >> since last year and am extremely excited to work with you all again. I
 >> wanted to let you know that we have FINALIZED a date for our first
 >> Pennsylvania/Microsoft recruiting offsite! I used this model in the
 >> other state I recruit for, Texas, 3 times last year, and it resulted in
 >> hiring 30 FT candidates from 9 different schools!!!!
 >>
 >> Microsoft will be coming to Philadelphia, PA October 30th - November 1st
 >> and will be holding interviews at the Embassy Suites Downtown Philly -
 >> Center City.
 >>
 >> PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE INTERVIEWS ARE ONLY FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO WILL
 >> BE GRADUATING WITH ANY DEGREE IN THE NEXT YEAR. (so employment would
 >> start by Aug 2007 at the latest) We are looking for Software Design
 >> Engineers, Testers and Program Managers. I can also post our non
 >> technical positions with you but they will not be included in this
 >> hiring session. If you would like those other positions please let me
 >> know.
 >>
 >> The model is simple and effective. I will post jobs at various schools
 >> within your region, and all candidates who are interested will email me
 >> their resumes. From there we will set up an initial phone screen and
 >> narrow down the candidates that we wish to interview. Instead of the
 >> candidates coming to us, we go to them. We bring 3 hiring managers and
 >> a recruiter, interview them in a central location and make offers on the
 >> spot. The interview is no longer than 4 hours and students leave with a
 >> job!!! Positions will be for the Redmond, WA office. The great thing
 >> about this interview is that candidates will be interviewed ASAP AND
 >> have a hiring decision without having to take time off from school or
 >> work to travel for a much longer interview in Redmond.
 >>
 >> Microsoft will cover all candidate travel cost getting them from your
 >> school to Philly and back, but this way instead of a 6 hour flight
 >> there and back the candidate can fly/drive in and be done with the
 >> interviews in just 6 hours. I have found this is extremely appealing to
 >> candidates, especially during Fall Classes. We will still be recruiting
 >> the traditional way as well but I would encourage your students to apply
 >> for this, as its quicker, closer and offers will be made onsite!
 >>
 >> During this time we will be interviewing 40-50 FT candidates and making
 >> offers on site!
 >>
 >> What this will entail is us posting a position online at your career
 >> services office that has an interview date associated with it (final
 >> interviews being held the week of the 30th).
 >>
 >> To reach our goal of interviewing 40-50 students during the final week
 >> in Octobetr for FT positions myself and my team will need to phone
 >> interview over 200 students prior to setting up this interview. This is
 >> where I will really need to support of the career services department,
 >> as well as professors and alumni. I need the message to be sent out to
 >> the students that this isn't a typical job posting, there will be
 >> interviews associated with it... but not in the traditional sense. We
 >> will not have the schedule ready for at least a week AFTER we have
 >> screened all the candidates. The screens will take 20-30 minutes and
 >> will be scheduled as the resumes of qualified students arrive to my
 >> email. Once the students have been screened and are good to go, we will
 >> move forward scheduling the interview loop with them- it should take 4
 >> -5 hours and we will have numerous days and times available for them to
 >> start during that week.
 >>
 >> LET YOUR STUDENTS KNOW THEY CAN APPLY NOW AND SEND THEIR RESUMES TO
 >> jgodfrey@microsoft.com . I would like
 >> all resumes to be sent to my attention (or posted in my account) and we
 >> can go from there!! The sooner the better though as I would love to get
 >> those eager students a chance to interview asap. I am aware that school
 >> hasn't started yet but I wanted to pass this info on now, as I am ready
 >> for the interviews to begin. Once we have decided on the top 40-50
 >> candidates we will be bringing a team of interviewers down that will be
 >> conducting full interview loops onsite for SDE and SDET Positions. We
 >> will be equipped to make offers from this trip and no waiting or flying
 >> back to Redmond, WA will be necessary.
 >>
 >>
 >> JOB DESCRIPTIONS ARE listed below...
 >>
 >> Due to the popularity of this event last spring we are looking to do
 >> between 2-3 of these over the course of the next 9 months. This first
 >> offsite is only open to FT candidates, and we are in talks to have one
 >> specifically for interns in the Fall.
 >>
 >> Please post this to your students, faculty, professors, career center,
 >> etc for computer science, IT, and Engineering students as I am ready to
 >> start conducting interviews.
 >>
 >> I hope that you and yours students are as excited as I am about this
 >> great opportunity for your students andto continue to build a strong
 >> relationship with your school for years to come.
 >>
 >> Best Regards,
 >>

MICROSOFT CORE TECH POSITIONS AVAILABLE for Philadelphia, PA offsite- October 30th - Nov 1st.

1. SOFTWARE DESIGN ENGINEER:
Full-Time positions Available

Construct a rock solid foundation. There's a Software Design Engineer at the
core of every Microsoft product. Software Design Engineers put all their
technical talents and creativity to the test as they develop next-generation
applications, operating systems, and tools, just to name a few. You'll write
code, construct data structures and algorithms, and work closely with the
Program Manager to define and prioritize features. It's an opportunity to
explore new technical realms and leave a lasting technical legacy.

You will be building products from the ground up, writing code that turns
concepts into new technologies and next-generation services. Your code is
secure, robust, scalable, and efficient. Teamwork skills are a must. You'll
work with your Program Manager to define and prioritize features, and together
you'll weigh the "coolness" and usefulness of a feature against how complex it
is to implement. In this process, technical restrictions as well as any impact
that one feature may have on other features of the product must be identified
and considered. You'll also work with Software Design Engineers in Test to
improve product quality, evaluate functionality, identify problem areas, create
test cases, and investigate bugs.

Skill Set:
C/C++/C#
Complex problem-solving
Creativity and innovation
Passion for writing code
Broad knowledge of computer science fundamentals
Ability to think "outside the box"
Drive for results
Roles and Responsibilities:
Construct data structures and algorithms
Write quality code
Explore innovative technical solutions
Test and debug code
Contribute to feature definition and design
Examine feature feasibility and estimate development time
We have openings in Redmond WA, Fargo ND and Raleigh NC.

2. SOFTWARE DESIGN ENGINEER IN TEST:
Full-Time Positions Available

You build it to break it. You like seeing how things work. And you like making
them work better. A Software Design Engineer in Test combines the "building"
aspect of software design engineering with the "breaking" aspect of software
test engineering. Perhaps more than any other software engineering position,
Software Design Engineers in Test enjoy tremendous job variety and the
opportunity to design wide-reaching tools.

So what exactly is it? A Software Design Engineer in Test is a developer who
designs, develops, and maintains automation systems and often expandable suites
containing multiple automation programs to be used by the development and test
teams. They are responsible for utilizing innovative test technologies to
develop a product's testing strategy, and for facilitating the creation and
execution of automated test suites across a diverse set of technologies. They
look at source code for potential problems using Microsoft internal tools. They
also reproduce, debug and isolate problems, and verify fixes.

As a Software Design Engineer in Test, you'll work closely with your team and
the Program Managers to determine specification feasibility, and with your test
team to develop test plans to ensure customer needs are met. You'll also be
involved in code reviews, providing feedback on testability to Software Design
Engineers.

Skill Set:
C/C++/C#/VB.NET
Complex problem-solving
Creativity and innovation
Methodical approach
Attention to detail
Negotiation and conflict management
Drive for results
Roles and Responsibilities:
Design and develop tool architecture
Write automation systems and device drivers
Author test plans and cases
Conduct security and stress tests
Debug at source level
Identify, investigate, and prioritize bugs
We have openings in Redmond WA, Fargo ND and Raleigh NC.
