I miss it sometimes, although I'm loving San Francisco. I still think of Sproul when I think of the CS dept., though. How's the new building? Anyway, I'm still working at Salesforce.com, and I really like it. I've been talking to my boss and some of the recruiting people about how hard it is to get college students interested in what we're doing here, mostly because it sounds all "business-y" and doesn't have the cool-factor that a Yahoo or Google does. But we're actually working on a lot of really interesting problems. We have over 500,000 users world-wide simultaneously accessing a multi-tenant database system, and we do some neat tricks to allow each of them to have what appears to be a custom database schema. And, we just unveiled what we're calling Apex Code, where we're allowing our customers to run code on our systems, still in a multi-tenant manner. We've implemented some neat stuff to prevent them from creating any runaway processes. I really believe in what the company is trying to do, which is to make create an On-Demand platform for business computing (aka Software-as-a-Service, aka Hosted computing). Our customers love us, and we really have a reputation in the business world similar to Google's in the consumer world as the dominant company in our area. All of which makes it a fun place to work. So, we're still aggressively hiring, both for CS grads and summer interns. I really like my co-workers; they're really first-rate programmers and people. One of the things that attracts people to Salesforce is their commitment to philanthropy. You can take about a day a month of paid time to go work on a volunteer project, and 1% of company profits goes to the Salesforce Foundation. If you know of anyone looking for post-graduation or summer positions, you should send them my way; give them my work address: emoses@salesforce.com. Thanks. -- Evan Moses emoses@gmail.com "Take a moment to be sideways" ----- End forwarded message ----- Charles F.
