About The Lime Group

The Lime Group is a technology firm operating businesses in finance and
software. Companies under the Lime Group umbrella include Tower Research
Capital, a quantitative hedge fund manager; Lime Brokerage, a direct access
securities broker; Lime Wire, makers of the world's fastest peer-to-peer
file-sharing client; and The Open Planning Project (TOPP), a non-profit
focusing on increasing transparency in government and enhancing citizen
engagement with the decisions that affect our lives.

The Lime Group has a relaxed and casual workplace. We put a premium on
quality of life. We believe that working intelligently and efficiently
allows us time to enjoy all that life has to offer.

Our office is an open workplace that involves everyone in what is happening
in the business. The goal is for everyone to be excited, happy, and
challenged, and to have the opportunity to live up to their potential. Our
small size and open work environment creates an esprit de corps rarely found
in large organizations. This creates a powerful learning environment where
people freely consult with each other and share their experience and
knowledge.

At the Lime Group, we not only strive to excel at what we are doing, we
thoroughly enjoy doing it.

About TOPP

JOB TITLES: Software Developers, Web Interaction Designer, FLASH Expert
LOCATION: New York, NY
START DATE: ASAP
APPLICANTS: Current seniors and recent graduates

The Open Planning Project (TOPP) seeks highly talented individuals looking
to make a real difference in the world. We are building an organization
that innovates and pushes the edges of technology, but while most tech
companies work in service of the profit motive we work for the building a
more transparent, sustainable and democratic society. We believe that
non-profit does not have to be a synonym for inefficiency, and that we can
find equitable business models and reinvest the profits in further service
of humanity, instead of begging big donors for money.

http://www.openplans.org/projects/topp-the-organization/project-home

If you are highly motivated yet aren't quite ready to take the 9-5 (or
9-midnight as the case may be) job making enterprise software or doing
investment banking, then we encourage you to apply and help us build a new
kind of non-profit. We hope to be a job that you fall in love with, that
you can pour your creativity and energy in to, and be rewarded by seeing
your work in the world. We offer great benefits, competitive salaries,
flexible hours, and a work environment you want to come to, in a beautiful
office in downtown New York filled with friendly and passionate people.

Open Positions*

Software Developers

If you want to use your computer science skills to help make the world a
better place, then TOPP is interested in talking to you. All our software
is developed open source, in both license and
methodology. You should have experience in a variety of programming
environments, enough to be comfortable switching languages and pick up new
skills. We are very excited if you can show us contributions you've already
made to open source projects. Solid software engineering including
algorithms, object-oriented programming, databases and design patterns is
essential, as is proven academic success. We currently use the Python,
Zope, Plone stack for our OpenPlans
www.openplans.org/projects/topp-the-organization/about-openplans software,
but are looking to add a lot of AJAX functionality on top of it.

GeoServer www.openplans.org/projects/topp-the-organization/geoserver is
programmed in Java, and if GIS and web mapping excites you we encourage you
to apply.

Web Interaction Designer

Though you can do stellar graphic design or pump out high-quality code, you
prefer to meld the two, designing and engineering the complex interactions
between humans and software. Our tools needs to be incredibly easy for
anyone to use, and we want you to make them so. You will design user
interfaces in collaboration with our engineers and open source users
(co-developers), and recieve and provide feedback on prototypes and design
mockups. You should have experience with DHTML, CSS and ideally Javascript
or Flash as well, in addition to a portfolio demonstrating clear artistic
talent.

Flash Expert

TOPP has several interesting online collaboration projects that call for
Flash expertise. You should have an extensive Flash portfolio, not only
sites that look great, but applications that are a
breeze to use. You will take a leadership position on the Flash projects,
gathering feedback from managers and implementing prototypes and production
quality flash based applications.

Hi Samantha,

We have a majordomo subscription email list called job-opp to which
many CS majors and some CS alums subscribe. I forwarded your
note to that list. Unfortunately, that list does not
handle attachments, so if you would like me to send any
of the specific descriptions to that list, please send them to me
as ordinary text or send urls of a place where you keep them
that I could refer students to.

Thanks.
