James Madison University would like to cordially invite students to participate in its NSF-funded International Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site Program at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana from May through July 2005. The goal of this program is to expand the educational experience of participants through research in ecology, environmental science, and conservation biology in tropical sub-Sahara Africa. Seven students and a high school teacher will travel with the Program Director to the University of Cape Coast, Ghana from May 23 through July 15 2005 to work on defined research projects under the mentorship of Ghanaian scientists. Participants will conduct carefully selected projects focusing on ecological studies in the Cape Coast area such as the Kakum National Forest, one of the few virgin forests in Africa. Weekly seminars and workshops, led by Ghanaian professors, will provide participants opportunities to learn beyond their disciplines. Field trips to cultural sites will take place during the weekends. Airfare, room and board will be provided. Participants will receive a stipend of $3000 at the end of the program. Applications are available at http://csm.jmu.edu/wubah/ucc/application.htm. Deadline for receiving applications is April 15 2005. Daniel A.
